“Performance Appraisals” Please respond to the following:

Determine why organizations can have higher productivity when top managers encourage supervisors to set goals, assess performance, and provide feedback to employees. Support your answer with examples. Then, describe the experience you have had with performance appraisals and how your performance has been influenced by them.

From the e-Activity, rate the importance of measuring performance and providing an opportunity for feedback. Support your position.

  1. Performance appraisal is the systematic review and evaluation of the performance of the employees in the organization. It involves setting of goals by the supervisors, assessment of the performance of the employees and providing them feedback on the basis of the assessment. This process stimulates higher productivity among the employees because employees are aware of the goals they need to achieve and are able to work on the measures required to improve their performance. The feedback provided to them enables them to find the weakness in their performance that motivates the employee to overcome the weakness and to do their very best. For example when an employee in the manufacturing department is told at the beginning of the period the number of units he/she has to manufacture the employee is aware of the standards against which his/her performance will be evaluated. The feedback to the employee after assessment of the performance will motivate the employee either to continue the superior performance or to improve the performance.
  2. I recently had my annual performance appraisal, which I had, like I have always had, was very positive experience, when I have my appraisal, my supervisor often asks me what are my short and long term goals are, for example for short term goals, would be getting an account straight that was recently assigned to me, and long term goal would be the type of job I would like to apply for when one becomes open. Many people in the position that I am in would like to stay in their current position, that is their long term goal, but mine is to stay with the company but to move up with in the company. With the appraisal begin done my supervisor will add this information into the appraisal, and then give me ideas, on how to develop my future career plans.
