The Internet And Information

One of the most effective strategies for increasing the flow of information within a hospitality organization is to give all employees access to the company intranet and all corporate information. Describe three ways how allowing access to the company intranet could help communication and three ways how it could hinder communication within a hospitality organization.

By giving your employees access to the company intranet and corporate information you are increasing the information flow. Instead of spending time and money on hard copy information you are able to create a faster connection between all employees with computer access. Technology has come a long way and now people are spending more time online to complete tasks such as: research and shopping faster and easier. If a company does work globally, this will also allow access to information even with the time difference. By offering way of communication, employees have the opportunity to be more knowledgeable about the company so that they can better serve the guests.

There are also ways that this strategy could hinder the communication within the organization. One way is that when you give all of your employees access to the corporate database you are chancing that someone could leak vital information to a competitor. Not only that they would be able to copy and paste information on to the web causing vital data to be seen by everyone. Another way this access could hinder communication is that not everyone, especially older folks, have computers or internet access. By not offering employees hard copies of information, you are risking that they may never be up-to-date on corporate news. Another problem that could occur is that online resources can sometimes be confusing. Each employee is going to need detailed training to be able to get on the database.
