Week 8 DQ 1 Analyzing Policy

“Analyzing Policy.” Please respond to the following:

When one label an idea, organization or person it comes with a negative connotations. An example is the Republican National Committee (RNC) in Tampa Florida. Many are stating that Tropical Storm Isaac was a Democrat to destroy the Republican Party.

• Evaluate how useful the conservative/liberal policy typology is to describe and analyze policy. Suggest at least one recommendation for improvement.
• Conservatives believe that government is too big, that it tends to be as much or more an instrument of mischief as of progress. Liberals believe that government can and should work to equalize differences between the wealthy powerful and the poor and less powerful.
• One recommendation is to shrink government. With shrinking government from the top level, then work their way down.Then make sure people have the qualification needed to the job and give everyone the opportunity in applying for the jobs. From my experience veterans are bumping qualified people out of position because they are veterans, which I feel that’s it not fair. Everyone should be on the same playing field.
• Analyze the benefits and shortcomings of labeling an idea, organization, or person as a liberal or conservative and apply these benefits or shortcomings to what you see happening today with an example.

Tropical Storm Isaac is raising questions among the media horde and planners there about how the Republican National Convention will proceed, especially if the storm had develops into a hurricane and inflicts havoc on the Gulf Coast. The Republican National Committee had cancelled Monday’s events, and shifted speakers who were scheduled then for the three remaining days of the convention.
