To complete this Job Hazard Assessment, I had to look at the task the was being conducted (replacing white boards) in a step by step manner. I broke the task down into what the actual steps were taken then looked at each step and identified possible risks or hazards that had the potential for occurring. After assessing each potential hazard, I looked at the controls that could be taken to prevent any risk of injury from that step. Since this was a pretty simple task overall the steps, the hazards, and the controls were all at a low level of ease. The overall task of replacing our whiteboards with smartboards was simple in nature but with the lack of proper safety management could have had the potential to have some serious injuries. The majority of the injuries would have come from improper lifting technique, improper use of a ladder, improper use of tools, and improper use of personal protective equipment. As can be seen above the primary controls used for each hazard using the Hierarchy of Controls method were use of administrative controls such as training in lifting technique, two-person teams, ladder usage, tool usage, and proper use of personal protective equipment such as back braces, gloves, steel toe boots and eye protection.
