The man being shocked at the women’s appearance implies that he feels the makeup the woman was wearing is excessive and over the top. The woman is displaying distance from the man implies her cautiousness as she is uncertain of the next action to be made or words to be spoken.

The man could not have reacted as quickly and be award of facial expressions and not so judgmental. The woman could tone down the unnecessary makeup if she is nervous and insecure about how people will view her.

This shows a form of going against the odds and standards a society or culture may attempt to force you to conform into.
