CIS 500 Week 5 Discussion – Mobile Commerce Technologies

Mobile Commerce Technologies (20 points)

Customers use mobile devices for a wide range of shopping and commercial activities. Mobile devices are becoming an attractive way to pay for products or conduct banking. Select an organization with which you regularly do business but not one you have used in a previous discussion. Do not repeat an example that has been posted by another student.

o Describe the benefits this organization provides through its mobile computing options.

o What risks most concern you in using this app? How would you mitigate these risks?

Instructions:  Post your initial post early in the week (Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday). It will take only a few minutes to address the following based on your reading this week. Then return and interact with a few classmates by replying to their posts on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. When they reply to you, you can then return and do your final postings on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. The more you interact with your classmates, the better the instructor will be able to gauge your grasp of the material. Online discussions are the equivalent of classroom discussions in the traditional classroom — except that here, you get to edit what you say before you say it. Have fun!

DISCUSSION

Since mobile devices have becoming a huge affair with technology most companies have a mobile version of their website for e-commerce or e-business.  Whether the company provides services or sells goods a mobile site is a huge asset to the company.  One of my favorite organizations which I regularly do business with is Amazon.

Benefits through its Mobile Computing Options

Cost Reduction

Because of the mobile option on their site, I can easily find a lot of options when I am buying an item; whether it is directly from Amazon or from different sellers local or international.

Then, another great benefit is by having a prime membership. With that I can receive my items mostly in 2 days and tax free.

Better customer experience

It is a lot easier for me to purchase anything, just think about something, grab my mobile device, and I am there already.

With mobile options, I can easily review my items, leave them on my cart, or save them for later. I can create shopping lists for special occasions.

Faster purchases

Faster than ever with One-click purchase, where all of my information has already been save in there system.  With a simple click, my item is ordered.

Another great option is repurchase item, if I have bought something in the past, I can open the app, go to my orders and search for any item and reorder the same item easily.

Risks concerning using this app and how to mitigate these risks:

Data loss

Cyber security breaches happen more often than I would expect, and companies like Target and Home depot are some of the victims of these breaches.  I am always concerned about my personal data being lost using online mobile apps; however, with Amazon they are one of the best clouding storage with AWS.  The best way for me to personally mitigate the risks of losing my data on their site would be sure that I change my login information very often and create a strong enough password that can’t be guessed.

Identity theft

There are many victims of identity theft all over the word, this is one of my concern when it comes to online shopping; however, with strong authentication I can be sure that even if I lose my mobile device that my account will not be affected.  To login, they send me a code to my phone to verify my account.

Failure to deliver

Finally, failure to deliver is on everyone’s mind every time they place an order online. Is the item coming or not; sometimes it can be late or does not come at all. Great companies like Amazon always try to remedy the situation by providing credits toward another purchase in the case that an item wasn’t delivered.
