Oven Door Cleaning Tool

This tutorial will show you how to simply put together a tool to get in between the glass on the oven door. I will give you the list of materials and show you how to put it together and how easy it is to use. This tutorial targets homeowners that own regular non commercial ovens.

Oven Door Cleaning Tool MaterialsThe following items are the complete list of things you will need to make your cleaning tool

You will need a 3/16wooden dowel rod that is 24 inches longTwo pieces of foam you get at a craft store cute to the size of your spongeHot glue gun and hot glue sticksSpongeDouble sided velcro

Tool Construction

Take your hot glue and put some in the middle of the foam padOnce there is glue you will place the stick in the glue and put more on topThan take the glue and put it on all of the edges and place the other piece of foam on top.

Tool Construction

After you glue the foam pads to the stick you will need to add Velcro to hold the sponge in placeYou will want to take glue and adhere the one side of the Velcro to the sponge and the other side to the foam stick

Tool Construction

After constructing the tool it should look similar to this and will be ready to use. You can add cleaner to the sponge during use and it is washable once you get finished cleaning the door. It also stores easily I take the sponge off and put it under my dish towels in the drawer.

Using the tool

You will need to remove the drawer at the bottom of the stove so you can access the slots at the bottom of the door to get between the glass. I find it helpful to turn the light on in the oven so I can see the spot better. Remember the metal on the drawer tends to be very sharp so be mindful as you lift it off the tracks that you do not cut yourself.

Using the tool

Once the drawer is removed you can feed the sponge tool into the slot at the bottom of the door allowing you to access the space between the glass. Once you get the sponge inside the glass it is easy to apply some pressure to get it firmly against the glass to clean.

Using the tool

You will want to run this over the entire surface to remove as much dirt and grime as possible. I usually wet my sponge and ring it out and spray a little disinfecting cleaner on it before placing it between the glass. I find if the spots inside the door are not cleaned immediately they tend to take a little longer to be removed.

Using the tool

Once you have removed all of the streaks and food that has managed to get dripped between the glass on the door you can remove the tool. Just bring it back down through the slot at the bottom of the door.

Using the toolThis tool is extremely simple to use and is very effective at getting the glass of the oven door clean

You will need to replace the drawer on the track once you are finished and your oven should be squeaky clean. Once again remember the edges are sharp and will easily cut through your skin.

Using the tool

Once you are finished you can remove the sponge from the tool and wash it or replace it. You will just need to add some more Velcro to the new sponge and you will be ready to go. I find I can wash mine in the dishwasher or washing machine several times before replacing it.
