VoIP is a technology that allows communication to be transmitted over a broadband network in a digital signal format . This has a benefit to current legacy phone systems in play today. For International Plastics VoIP provides cost savings and expansion possibilities. Without proper equipment, the ability to communicate over VoIP would be impossible.

Current Telecommunication Standards and Network Protocols

The current telecommunications setup for International Plastics is VoIP with VoIP/Data routers connected to a T3 line with a maximum speed of 44.736Mbps. The other communication between the corporate headquarters and China headquarters is a satellite base station that operates with an OC1 that has a maximum speed of 51.48Mbps. The Albany and Pontiac location are running at a T2 with a maximum speed of 6.312Mbps. Currently the Albany and Pontiac locations do not have VoIP accommodations and utilize the PSTN (Public Service Telephone Network) for voice communications. For data and video communication some of the standard protocols that are used are TCP, SIP, HTTPS, IP, SMTP, FTP, RTP, UDP, and DHCP .

Recommendations

For advancement and the ability to support the growing network of International Plastics Inc. there are a few recommendations that could be implemented to provide support.
