American political leaders achieved almost none of the intended goals in the Vietnam war, which cost over 56,000 American lives. It wasn’t until recently the consequences of this failure were seen as more than a unique mistake of foreign policy. Whereas many studies have focused on criticizing foreign-military advisors and failed military decisions, this book takes a much more broad prospective of America’s experience in Vietnam. Furthermore, it provides a theoretical perspective to review the perceptions and decisions of the war before, during and after and its relation to the Cold war.
This book will help provide an in depth review of the Vietnam war and a historical analysis which will assist in portraying the synopsis portion of the final project.
