PHI-413V Week 1 DQ2

What aspects of the topic readings do you find the most interesting? What is your view of the analysis of disease and healing in the readings? Explain.

I think it is interesting how science and medicine are so closely related. We are so wonderfully made. It takes a spiritual person to admit how the body was created to heal itself and when body systems are studied, you can really see how the body was meant to live forever. Science has to rely on divine inventions. It is through science that we have learned how to extend our lives and help the body to repair itself. After all, when the science runs out, it is a person’s faith in God and the acceptance of death that aids in coping with the inevitable.

“Man is not destroyed by suffering; he is destroyed by suffering without meaning” . One of the challenges physicians face is to help people find meaning and acceptance in the midst of suffering and chronic illness. Medical ethicists have reminded us that religion and spirituality form the basis of meaning and purpose for many people.

Disease and healing involve science and spirituality. Science can help with the physical component, but the spiritual part helps individuals with coping emotionally. Many are not able to recover mentally from some of life’s stressors and there is nothing that science can do to change that.
