The Denial of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Rights

SOC203 Social Problems

Throughout the history America has always symbolized equal rights, and opportunity for people of all race, sex, religion, creed and origins. America has always taken pride in being the beacon for those who are seeking shelter for a better way of life and of what it means to be free. However, America has a long-standing history of denying the basic rights to people who do not fit the within the design of what is considered to be social norms. One group in particular is the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community. America as a whole can agree that discrimination is wrong not matter what form it takes, who it targets, and where it occurs. And still America is known most primarily for its issue with discrimination.

While today’s society is permitted to enjoy the basic rights of living others such as the people of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community are denied those same basic rights. Human basic rights consist of the right to freedom without torture, Freedom of movement, Freedom of thought, conscience, and religion, a right to life, and a right to sexual orientation, to name a few.
