In the context of an organization, socialization is the process by which a new member of an organization adjusts to fit into the organization.
This includes learning and adopting the culture of that organization.
The new member learns organizational values, behavior and expectations.

The new employee has to assume roles and role behaviors
There are three stages of socialization including:
The anticipatory stage, the stage of encounter and the stage of metamorphosis.
Strategies for Socialization
According to Van Maanen, there are seven strategies of socialization. They include:
Formal socialization strategies
Individual socialization strategies
Sequential socialization strategies
Fixed socialization strategies
Tournament socialization strategies
Serial socialization strategies
Investiture socialization strategies
