What are three of the interconnected leadership tasks for strategic planning and implementation that you found most interesting? Tell me what each of these mean and why they would be important to understand as a student of strategic planning? Use specific material from our text and outside sources to support your thoughts.
This week the three interconnected leadership tasks that I found most interesting were understanding the people involved, including oneself, using dialogue and deliberation to create meaningful processes, and putting it all together and preparing for ongoing strategic change. Understanding the people involved, informs leaders decisions regarding project assignment, individual responsibilities, and organizational alignment. It is also important that leaders also have a grasp on their leadership styles, and personal strengths and weaknesses. How a person communicates what they know and the experience they have affects how the leader promotes organizational objectives and manages individuals. Secondly, when leaders understand their current situation and having the ability to visualize future concerted efforts in support of a developed plan. While supporting the plan a leader must also be able to analyze potential problems and develop solutions. Nothing is worse than a leader or team member in the organization that will complain or identify a problem but then not even bother to assist in providing a solution or put any effort into assisting the team. Leaders are meant to be problem solvers, however lacking the ability to foresee potential issues that may arise can prevent them from becoming more of a manager. Lastly, to ensuring the organization is effective. Leaders must promote collaboration within their organization and with each other. Having the communication and trust within the organization will assist in being able to continuously assess the process to ensure the plan maintains momentum and moves forward. Leaders must be invested in the process to ensure change throughout the organization reaches the desired goals.
