IT 520 Discussion 1

There are many different ways to define technical communication. To me, technical communication is being able to explain a subject, either written or verbally, so that anyone can understand it with ease. It differs from other types of communication because of its emphasis on clarity, accuracy, conciseness, consistency, readability, and usability. A wide variety of businesses use technical communication. Good technical communication is needed because some information being communicated may explain some extremely dangerous task where one mistake is the difference in life and death. In other businesses, technical communication is the difference between making millions of dollars and losing millions of dollars.

Great post Glenn

I agree that the communication need to be easily understood by the reader.  That is why diversification and collaboration is so important.  You need collaboration because it ensure i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed.  If there is an error or something is missing from the communication, then collaboration is a way to double and triple check yours work.  You hit the nail on the head when you said it is a challenge to communicate across global markets. I have had issue with communication with off shore employees.  The language difference is hard when the accent is so strong. Could correspond through email but when they need something done immediately they have to call.  There is no way of improving that.  I just have to keep repeating what I believe they said until they agree.
