A matrix structure is a form of matrix organization. It is an organizational design that groups employees by both function and product. There are many businesses that have made a matrix system to better their corporations’ income, and produce new products to satisfy their consumers. This is just another way to look at using Matrix structureThread: Week 2 Discussion 1Post: RE: Week 2 Discussion 1Author: Instructor Manager Posted Date: January 12, 2017 6:46 AMSome might argue that Matrix structure is the way to go, and here’s why: In a matrix-style structure personnel with similar skill sets are grouped together. For example, engineers might be grouped together in an engineering department. Matrix-style organizational structures allow for the development of teams that include individuals with different skill sets. This style of organization allows resources to be used to their best advantage and may promote the expansion of skill sets as team members collaborate. Matrix-style organizations may provide a more fulfilling workplace, especially for technical personnel. The cons are that conflict over the allocation of resources between line managers and project managers may occur. Also, having two bosses can cause a conflict of authorityThread: Week 2 Discussion 1Post: RE: Week 2 Discussion 1Author: Instructor Manager Posted Date: January 11, 2017 6:48 AMHierarchical organization is characterized by a large number of layers between top management and the lower ranks of the organization. It has an organization structure that follows the layout of a pyramid. In such organization, every employee in the organization usually the CEO, is secondary to someone else within the organization. Hierarchical structure is normally adopted by large organizations. A flat structure is an organization structure in which the organization has a few or no levels of middle management between executives and staff. There may be only one layer or a few layers between the top of the management and the lower level employees. Flat structure is usually adopted by the smaller organizations. Issues with Hierarchical structure and flat structures are that there are too many levels of hierarchy and they can make the decision making process slow. To resolve this there should be a proper chain of command they every person should follow to make the decision faster. My preference is that the company should employ an organizational structure. An organizational structure is a formal system of job duties and hierarchy. It defines the responsibilities of every position and the relationships among them. An effective structure controls and coordinates the business’ resources and motivates employees to achieve its goals. For example we all work as a team and each member of the team reports to a different supervisor. Since the team’s purpose is to work together to serve the unit, both parties needed to report to one person, in order to get clear, consistent expectations and resolve problems. Within the organizational structure few responsibilities are performed such as the span of control, staff structure, creating new and more departments, Organizational height and distribute authority.
