Vehicle Burglary

Whenever an investigator works a crime scene of a vehicle burglary it is important that he or she wears gloves. The investigator needs to take plenty of photographs of the vehicle. The investigator should verify if the doors were locked or unlocked at the time of the burglary.

Upon seeing that there was in fact a vehicle burglary, a book was in the front seat of the vehicle. The suspect may have thought that there was some money in the book. It is important that when exiting your car, do not leave anything that looks valuable in the seats.

The victim talked with the investigator and told him what items were missing from her car. The investigator followed all of the steps to processing this scene. The investigator collected and preserved all evidence so that it did not become contaminated.

The investigator was wearing gloves, and he used a flashlight to look in under the seats to make sure there was not a weapon in under them. The investigator did the right thing by using a flashlight, because for example there could have been a knife under the seat. The victim had left a Wal-Mart gift card, and some lose change, along with a set of keys to a locker lying in the seat.
