Abstract

Think of your dream job where you can work from home. Answer the questions in a well-constructed paragraph.1.What is the job? 2. How could your boss be sure you were working? 3. Would you work more or less, than if you were in the office? 4. Describe a typical morning routine (at least 250 words) of working from home.

Currently many people are working from home. Have you ever thought about working from home while at work? If you are like me, you sometimes think to yourself while at work that you could complete your tasks while at work at home. With this being said, would you change your work performance or even your job if you were able to work from home?

Data Administrator

A database administrator (DBA) is responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of a database. They will also be involved in the planning and development of the database as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users. A DBA makes sure that databases have the following qualities: data remains consistent across the database; data is clearly defined; users access data concurrently, in a form that suits their needs; there is provision for data security and recovery control (all data is retrievable in an emergency). DBA roles vary depending on the type of database, the processes they administer, and the capabilities of the database management system (DBMS) in use. This would be my dream job if I were to work at home because it would limit my distractions by affording me the solitude to concentrate.

Boss Oversight1

Database administrators are usually left alone until there is an incident. While working at home in order for your boss to have oversight on your duty performance you would have to be on call. He would also be able to remotely monitor your computers activities. The obvious thing your boss would do to monitor you would be to monitor incidents with the database itself. A daily summary of a database administrators completed task is a way that your boss could determine if you are effective working at home.

Work Performance. I believe I would work more by working at home. There are no clock in or out times just strictly completing tasks on a daily bases. When you work in an office, you spend a lot of time watching the time. This is because you feel as though it is a prison for a lack of a better term. Working at home provides a better environment as well as being comfortable in your workspace.

Routine. A database administrator has a very tedious job. They have to work 40 hour weeks in office locations. If there is any extra database work to be done, the DBA will have to put in the extra hours. Normally, a database administrator is on call throughout the day and night. As such, the job entails significant traveling as well. It is officially an 8.00am to 5.00pm job. The database administrators spend many hours sitting at their desks in front of their computers. As such, they are advised to get up and stretch every few minutes. This is to prevent problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome, back and neck pain. A typical morning would be 0600: Wake up; 0615: Shower; 0630 Dressed; 0645: Cup of Coffee; 0700-1200: Troubleshooting of database systems; 1300-1800: Establishing new databases or transferring data from old databases to new ones.
