Journal Reflection on Previous Research Conducted

For this journal entry, I was asked to think back to a time when I have completed research for either job or another class or course. I was also asked to reflect on how this experience was for me. For my job in the military I have had to do research numerous times. Each time I’ve had to conduct research it would vary between easy to difficult depending on what was being researched. The most important thing when researching no matter what you are doing the research for is to make sure your sources are accurate, credentialed and unbiased in their work. Reflecting back, I remember one of the first times I had to conduct research for my job I was very intimidated and unsure how to actually conduct research. The subject was about disaster preparedness and my job’s responsibility in humanitarian relief assistance. I was conducting the research due to a recent natural disaster and briefing the remaining members in my work center on what our role would be should we be called on to assist. I didn’t know where to begin or how to find credible sources and my supervisor that tasked me with researching the subject left me to sink or swim in this situation. Luckily for me, my job in the military has a SharePoint website with plenty of credible sources for subjects just like the one I was looking into. I found the needed information and was able to give the rest of my team member the appropriate information.
