Comparing leadership models

Universal model

Universal Model of Leadership helps explain how extraordinary leadership develops and how to accelerate its development. Many well-intentioned improvement initiatives fall short of intended results because leaders fail to account for the transformation in consciousness required to create and sustain high performance. Universal Model includes five stages of progressive leadership development: Egocentric, Reactive, Creative, Integral, and Unitive. Each stage is more mature, more effective and higher performing. – Bob Anderson and Bill Adams

Situational leadership model

the Situational Leadership Model is a theory of business leadership that promotes the benefits of combining a range of managerial styles to cater to different people within the same organization. This is opposed to the more traditional view of the executive manager who may employ the same leadership tactics across an entire organization, more than likely passing directives down through subordinates and other intermediaries.-Ryan May, September 2011 (http://www.businessdictionary.com/article/724/basics-of-the-situational-leadership-model/)

Differences

While both models work towards employee and organizational improvements, The Universal Model and Situational Leadership Model accomplish these in different ways. The Universal Model as mention previously is focused on the employees development from within. While the Situational Leadership is focused on development through work ethics and team building.

Similarities

While both models contribute to the employees development and the organizations overall goal. When reviewing the four quadrants of the Universal Model, it’s noticed that the Situational Model falls between relationship and creative, more specifically under relating and self-awareness.
