The study of this concept is applied to the management of workers and when done appropriately, the job performance of the people within the company improves, and the organization as a whole become more efficient. Within this summary, the following topics will be discussed: the connection between organizational behavior and the job skills multi-skilled, positive attitude, and organization skill; how the listed job skills lead to improved performance; how organizational behavior aids in decision-making & problem-solving; and the consequences of unethical behavior in the workplace (University of Phoenix, 2016).
The Connection between Organizational Behavior & Job Skills/Traits
As stated above organizational behavior is a study of people’s interaction within a company and how it affects job performances (“Investopedia”, 2016). Having positive organizational behavior skills/traits within a company like multi-skilledness, positive attitude, and organizational skills, results in high performance and output in many work settings.
How Job Skills Lead to Improved Job Performances
Multi-skilled
A multi-skilled employee is someone that can wear multiple hats and can take on more jobs than others within their department or section. This is an essential organizational behavior skill in many work settings especially for supervisors and managers because this skill allows them to handle more than one task at a time.
Positive Attitude
Within a company, it is important to have employees with the organizational behavior trait of having a positive attitude. Workers with positive attitudes are more willing to perform therefore have high output. According to Brooks (2013), positive attitude is contagious therefore, people with positive attitude also influences others to perform well.
Organized
A worker that is organized works more efficiently. Being organized adds value to an organization because the employee does not have to waste time navigating thru a mess; instead they can work thru tasks quicker and clearer which is essential in the fast-moving business world.
How Organizational Behavior Aids in Decision-Making & Problem-Solving
Conflicts and problems in workplace are inevitable, but being able to assess the best and quickest path to resolution is key. According to Manamara (2016), “In organizational behavior there is a framework for problem solving: First is defining the problem, next is identifying the potential causes of the problem, and third is making a recommendation to solving the problem” (Decision-Making & Problem-Solving).
Consequence of Unethical Behavior in a Workplace
One other inevitable issue in a workplace is unethical behavior. Examples of unethical behavior in a workplace are theft and forging or falsifying documents. Unethical behaviors have consequential impact on both the company as a whole and the perpetrator. These dire consequences include the company losing money and acquiring bad reputation; while the perpetrator losses their job and possibly even jail time. For companies to ensure success and longevity internally and externally, a zero-tolerance policy, system of checks and balance, and appropriate rules & regulations must be put in place to maximize deterring unethical behavior.
Conclusion
Organizational behaviors are what makes a company climate and culture; these can either bolster or undermine the success of an organization. Fostering good organizational behavior and justly eliminating poor ones can positively influence individual and company performance through informed decision-making and problem solving. Great understanding of the organizational behavior concepts are essential to the success of any company.
